Achieving Live Data in the Oracle Cloud
If you’re like most people shifting to a cloud strategy, your learning curve is steep, and even the basics such as migrating data to the cloud are worrisome. Whether megabytes or petabytes, you need your cloud migration to be an efficient process - continuous, requiring no downtime, and seamless without data loss. The long delays inherent with traditional migration methods, the need for coordinated ingestion across multiple environments and various geolocations, stale, vulnerable, or inconsistent data often leave projects stuck in the starting gate. Even worse, when your business’s data is driving competitive advantage, unless you can be sure of the availability of your data, you and your business are at serious risk. Now it is possible to have guaranteed consistent data everywhere, even when data is growing and changing. This presentation will explain ‘LIVE DATA’. And present architecture and solutions that show how a ‘LIVE DATA strategy’ allows you to surmount common and sometimes scary cloud use-cases across a wide variety of industry scenarios.

Turning Relational Database Tables into Spark Data Sources
Big Data Analytics requires unstructured data (a.k.a. Big Data) but also Master data generally stored in RDBMS tables.

Apache Spark furnishes the Spark SQL interface for querying unstructured data using SQL. This interface provisions the Datasource API with a JDBC interface for accessing relational databases. How to join RDBMS tables with Big data using Spark SQL without moving data over?

This session describes an implementation of the Spark Datasource API and explains the optimizations that (i) allow parallel and direct access to the RDBMS database (with the option of controlling the number of concurrent connections); (ii) introspect the RDBMS table, generate partitions of Spark JDBCRDDs based on the split pattern and rewrite Spark SQL queries into the RDBMS SQL; (iii) use hooks in the JDBC driver for faster type conversions; (iv) push down predicates to the RDBMS, prune partitions based on the where clause to reduce the amount of data returned to the RDBMS.

Sneak Preview: Graph Cloud Services and Spatial Console for Database Cloud
Cloud services change the way we provision, deploy and perform analytic application development. They can simplify the development and deployment experience and make it possible for developers and data scientists to use analytics in which they had little or no expertise.

Two new planned cloud services from Oracle for spatial and graph analysis offer low-code and no-code capabilities. The spatial cloud services include no-code spatial analysis, automated geo-enrichment of data, visual map analysis, and simplified spatial application creation for analysts and developers. The graph cloud services provide an analyst and developer studio with dozens of prebuilt, low-code graph algorithms with wizards to automate modeling, loading, and visualizing graph data and analysis results.

These mapping and graph analysis services offer over hundreds of geospatial and graph analysis functions.  Data access will be available through rich APIs, along with SQL-based spatial and graph query languages.

Powerful Spatial Features You Never Knew Existed in Oracle Spatial and Graph
Even expert users may not know some of the powerful functions available in Oracle Spatial and Graph, or how to optimize common spatial requirements. I often find myself working with customers that implement spatial requirements the way they had to with other spatial solutions, instead of the best way they can by leveraging powerful unique capabilities available in Oracle Spatial and Graph. Many times the reason is "I didn't know that existed". This session will cover how Oracle Spatial and Graph natively integrates with key Oracle Database features such as transparent data encryption (TDE), redaction, partitioning (all types), and also powerful nearest neighbor strategies, new spatial functions introduced in 12c, as well as an overview of spatial functions you never knew existed. Customer use cases and code examples will be included. This session is intended for a technical audience, but others will also gain useful insights on the powerful capabilities of Oracle Spatial and Graph.

Forecasting the storm recovery resource allocation in electric utility network
A leading cause of power outages in the US is weather driven equipment failure events. Oracle utility customers are seeking machine learning techniques (recommended by the USDOE) to improve real-time risk assessment for critical assets based upon incoming weather forecast. Given an accurate prediction for the location, type, and amount of the storm-damaged equipment, the utility company can position the right number of specialized crews and material resources ahead of time. We develop a novel machine-learning model trained on the history of asset failures and reported weather. Since the weather-reporting stations might be far from the assets and some weather data measurements might be missing, we interpolate the weather conditions at the asset locations using a triangularization function computed with a barycentric coordinates technique implementation. We report performance comparison of multiple machine learning models to recommend the best damage prediction tool.

Bringing your Data Warehouse to the the Lake
As early as 2001 Enterprise Data Warehousing (EDW) design patterns like "Corporate Information Factory" (CIF) began to emerge. Theses patterns established EDW as the central focus of reporting. Current BI/DW 1.0 projects still follow these patterns today. Problems in the BI/DW 1.0 methodology have appeared. Increases in data volume, variety and velocity have all created considerable challenges for this legacy architecture. In this presentation we will review the legacy of BI/DW 1.0 and dive into the future BI/DW 2.0 and 3.0 architectures. Taking a close look and advanced staging areas, operational data stores and how those architectures can be used for cloud facilitation in BI/DW 2.0. Additionally, this presentation will drive into the BI/DW 3.0 data tipping point and where various Oracle products fit in these new emerging modern data architectures.

Analyze the Global Knowledge Graph with Visualization, Cloud, & Spatial Tech
Every 15 minutes the world’s news is captured into the Global Knowledge Graph. The data set contains nearly a trillion sentiment snapshots and more than 1.5 billion location references.
Oracle ingested the data set on the Bare Metal Cloud to create a data warehouse. The project was designed to meet the needs of big data users, such as cyber threat and defense intelligence analysts. They require analysis of the connections between people, places, events, content and sentiment embedded in traditional data sources. They also need a pipeline and robust visualizations to filter the data, carve out relevant subsets and save the results to a property graph database for further analysis.
This session will describe the challenges, complexities, and technologies used to create a 35TB data warehouse, and filter, visualize, analyze and write results back, with a single click, to the Oracle Spatial and Graph database using Tom Sawyer Perspectives.

Follow the Money: A Graph Model for Monitoring Bank Transactions
Examining the flow of bank transactions is key to analyzing financial operations such as fraud detection, client segmentation, personalized offers, risk modeling, client retention, etc. In particular, bank analysts are challenged to understand the behavior of companies that make large bank deposits and then transfer significant sums – to entities both inside and outside the bank’s network. They are also challenged by the limitation of relational and traditional BI tools to effectively model and analyze the money flows between a customer, its bank, and external 3rd parties. Banco Galicia has addressed this challenge by modeling money flows as a complex graph of transactions. The result is a powerful approach to support the analysis and visualization of money flows across a large network of bank-affiliated transactions. This session will desdescribe how Banco Galicia uses Oracle Big Data Spatial and Graph to understand the topology and behavior of money transfers.

Graph Modeling and Analysis for Complex Automotive Data Management
Mazda is an automotive manufacturer that routinely needs to link and analyze data from different sources like production, sales, inventory, and logistics. Most manufacturers use a bill of materials (BoM) to provide a master system for parts and their relationships. However, BoM developers have long realized the difficulties of modeling the complex relationships between components using a RDBMS. Moreover, BoM data must also align with master (or transaction) data from disparate IT systems. This paper highlights a novel approach to apply a graph database to create a flexible BoM of interconnected auto components. This system uses the property graph database and in-memory analytics in Oracle Spatial and Graph. We found the graph data model to be more effective at modeling, querying, and visualizing complex relationships in our data, while also integrating with different production systems. We will also share performance results of complicated pattern matching queries using PGQL._x000D_

Operationalizing Machine Learning
Most data science projects begin with data, “tools” and scripts but fail to get beyond the data scientist. They hit a wall when attempting to “operationalize” the models. Netflix never implemented the algorithm that won the Netflix $1 Million Challenge. This dichotomy between enterprise and algorithms is eliminated when algorithms are built into the data management platforms. By “moving algorithms to the data”, Oracle Database and Big Data Clouds are now data management and advanced analytical platforms. “Robots” can replicate human tasks by capturing best practices discovered in the data and automating that process using machine learning deployed models. Developers use SQL, R and Oracle Data Miner UI to build, evaluate and deploy advanced analytical methodologies. See how to go beyond “tools” to enabling RPA (robotic process automation) applications. Several Oracle “predictive” Applications will be shown as examples._x000D_

Real Time Big Data Analytic Platform with Oracle GoldenGate for Big Data
Lending Club’s Big Data Analytics platform is going through a major transformation to adopt the Lambda Architecture with Real-Time reporting and execution of AI/ML models on Real-Time data. Lending Club's OLTP platform is transitioning to a Microservice-based architecture. At the heart of both solutions is GoldenGate for BigData. We are using a single server configured to run the replicats serving JSON payloads and Avro formats using same set of trail files. We implemented a custom java replicat to stream JSON messages to AWS Kinesis. We are using HDFS handler to stream data in Avro format to HDFS and AWS S3 to be consumed by AWS EMR, Hive on Tez/Presto/Spark. The solutions have been architected in a secure, reliable, and resilient manner.

Spark Streaming vs. Kafka Streams - two stream processing platforms compared
Independent of the source of data, the integration and analysis of event streams gets more important in the world of sensors, social media streams and Internet of Things. Events have to be accepted quickly and reliably, they have to be distributed and analyzed, often with many consumers or systems interested in all or part of the events. In this session we compare two popular Streaming Analytics solutions: Spark Streaming and Kafka Streams.
Spark is fast and general engine for large-scale data processing and has been designed to provide a more efficient alternative to Hadoop MapReduce. Spark Streaming brings Spark's language-integrated API to stream processing, letting you write streaming applications the same way you write batch jobs. It supports both Java and Scala.
Kafka Streams is the stream processing solution which is part of Kafka. It is provided as a Java library and by that can be easily integrated with any Java application.

Setting up Oracle BI with Amazon Redshift
So you want to use Oracle Business Intelligence but your organization doesn't have an Oracle Database, or maybe you do but most of your data sources are stored in a warehouse such as Redshift or Snowflake.

At first glance it might seem that Oracle BI is no longer an option, but don't worry -- it is. In this presentation, we'll guide the audience through the nuanced complexity faced when installing a JDBC Driver for the purpose of connecting Oracle Business Intelligence to a database that isn't Oracle. While we use Redshift as an example, the shared insights will be helpful for anyone connecting Oracle BI to any warehouse or database.

Analyzing Blockchain and Bitcoin Transaction Data as Graph
Blockchain technology and Bitcoin will potentially revolutionize business transactions. Blockchain offers a robust, decentralized platform for privacy and trust. It underlies the digital crypto-currency Bitcoin, which can be exchanged freely and anonymously, without a central authority. Bitcoin transactions - recorded publicly, and growing at a rate of 100,000's of transactions per day - provide an invaluable dataset to gain insight into the behavior of digital currency and the underlying Blockchain technology. Blocks, transactions with potential multiple inputs and outputs, and flow of bitcoins between addresses, form a sophisticated real-time graph. This talk details a pipeline used to gather bitcoin transaction data and analyze it with powerful graph cloud database technologies.

Analytic platform with a hybrid approach of home grown and vendor tools
Adopting any new technology is daunting, in addition to peer pressure, there is also a need to size up as data grows, all without breaking the bank. The original BIWA 2015 presentation was on how any IT shop can build a commodity Hadoop cluster with Dell servers, Redhat Linux, Infiband network cards and Cloudera HDFS. Most of the coding was in Java, and OLH (Oracle Loader for Hadoop) was used to load data into an Oracle 12c in-memory table (presented at OOW15). The expertise of Computer Science faculty, staff and students was used for the full project with vendor support. The group has since enhanced the cluster with SSD (Solid State Drives) and SPARK2, and written Python Spark Machine Learning code to  analyze Gigabyte size aircraft  logs. The visualization of the data using R-Oracle has been planned for the future.

Ingesting streaming data into Graph database
This talk presents the experience of a customer project where we built a stream-based ingestion into a graph database. It is one thing to load the graph first and then querying it. But it is another story if the data to be added to the graph is constantly streaming in, while querying it. Data is easy to add, if each single message ends up as a new vertex in the graph. But if a message consists of hierarchical information, it most often means creating multiple new vertices as well adding edges to connect this information. What if a node already exists in the graph? Do we create it again or do we rather add edges which link to the existing node? Creating multiple nodes for the same real-life entity is not the best choice, so we have to check for existence first. We end up requiring multiple operations against the graph, which demonstrated to be a bottle neck. This talk presents the implementation of an ingestion pipeline and the design choice we made to improve performance.

Why IoT is the killer use case for AutoML
While AI/ML has matured enough to solve many real-world problems effectively, this process typically requires close interactions between three separate skill sets – the domain expert, the data scientist and the programmer. A typical IoT user is a line-of-business person such as a Plant Supervisor or a Fleet Manager. AutoML enables automatic selection of the most appropriate algorithm that suits the domain problem learned based on the interactions with domain expert. Also, AutoML automatically selects the hyper parameters and tunes the models without requiring data scientist skills. Furthermore, AutoML automates the repetitive analytics needed for retraining models warranted by the high velocity IoT data. Therefore, AutoML is the key enabler of analytics in the industrial IoT. Since the typical business benefits in IoT involve significant savings, IoT is the killer use case for AutoML. We will present how Oracle IoT Cloud applies AutoML for industrial IoT problems.

Measuring Published Citation using Graph Modeling and Analysis
Research organizations, along with their funding agencies, routinely need to measure the performance of their organization. The application of scientific citation indexing is a widely used metric for evaluating the success of a research organization. This paper highlights the novel use of graph modeling, analytics and visualization to improve this metric of scientific performance. Our approach models an index of published scientific publication and citations as a connected graph. We used the Oracle in-memory graph analytics engine (PGX) to carry out graph analysis, statistical inferencing, and visual exploratory analysis. Our results illustrate how these graph modeling combined with statistical analysis, such as stochastic block model (SBM), can improve the measurement and evaluation of scientific research.

How Search Augments Analytics
Traditional Business intelligence (BI) has delivered a great value to organizations, enabling them to better data-based decision making. However, today the speed to make business decisions has outpaced the traditional BI's ability to adapt and answer quickly new questions.

In this talk we introduce a very powerful engine like Apache Solr and demonstrate how easy it is to set it up and start getting answers right away. Since a picture is better than a thousand words we will also introduce Banana (a fork of Kibana) as its graphical front end for data analysis.

Finally, We will also discuss about Solr Analytics 2.0 which, provides the ability to search on live data perfectly complementing the use of a traditional data warehouse database.

Using GeoJSON in the Oracle Database
Location and other geographical information is traditionally stored in Oracle databases using specialized data types, such as the SDO_GEOMETRY type. That data type is powerful and flexible, but can be difficult to use. A modern alternative is to use a JSON-based encoding, called GeoJSON instead. GeoJSON is a lightweight format suited to data exchange and transfer, popular for reading and publishing spatial data on the Web, in Big Data, and for the Internet of Things.

This session will explain the way GeoJSON encodes a variety of geographical objects, from simple points to complex multi-polygonal structures. It will also explain how those structures can be indexesd, and how they can be used in spatial analytics, in isolation or in conjunction with classic SDO_GEOMETRY types.
Finally we will show how the GeoJSON objects can be displayed on a map.
